It's a nice show. Botanical illustration is an intriguing specialty--everything must be drawn in outline detail and with face-on perspective (there must be an academic term for that...). Lots of pieces already sold, too.

I can't believe I just found this blog! I was JUST at Kefa yesterday morning for a business meeting. Having arrived early, I got a chance to look around. I'm an artist myself - I love these! The color and the graphic elements (esp of the piles of crockery and pans) appealed so well to my eye. I loved that they were done in brush marker, too.

Plus, the coffee and atmosphere was great! Kefa is my new favorite place!

Do come over, Kusum.

In general, people may not wish to see or buy "human rights paintings" which may be graphic, but I feel that the courage of those who stand up should be honored.

It takes time to see, as Georgia O'Keefe said.

Thanks to A I Festival and Kefa for hosting this show.

There are places which are so "Myanmarized" i.e. in favor of engaging with the junta that they make people like me unwelcome.

The answer is to keep looking, painting and writing and hosting shows like this.

My friend Deepali Moondra of Design Punditz is also participating in the Festival sharing her Miniature Artistry and her passion to talk about artists who never got credit for their work. I am helping her with the workshop. IMPACT is also participating in patnership with Dance Exchange.

My daughter used to work at St. Luke's and took me to Kefa to see the exhibit. Very nice stuff and I fell in love with Kefa and the sisters running it. And the Space 7:10. It would be my dream to have my friend Mark Hornbuckle's work exhibited there. His work is truly extraordinary. Buffalo Soldier pens story of courage

I write in reference to Jason Tomassini's story and Charles E. Shoemaker's photographs, "Buffalo Soldier chronicles his battles in Europe and at home," [July 8].

Buffalo Soldier James Harden Daugherty's new book, "Buffalo Saga," is a "you are there" firsthand account of his journey as a soldier in the Army's 92nd Infantry Division, the only all African-American division-strength unit, the Buffalo Soldiers, who fought in the European theater in World War II.

Drafted at the age of 19, Daugherty served in northern Italy, and wrote this insightful book at the age of 22 upon his return from the War. He was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement and the Combat Infantryman Badge for outstanding performance of duty in action.

This book is also an engaging, compassionate and perceptive essay on human rights, social justice/injustice, and freedom at home and abroad. Daugherty's invincible spirit and his vitality courses through his account as well as his sense of humor and understanding of human nature. Daugherty is a profile in courage; his "Buffalo Saga" is also about the heroism, courage and sacrifice of all his distinguished soldier comrades in World War II.
