“When you ask a person to jump, his attention is most directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so the real person appears."
–Philippe Halsman on his philosophy of ‘Jumpology’
–Philippe Halsman on his philosophy of ‘Jumpology’
"In Halsman’s series of Jumpology photos, he wanted to capture the moment at which the model is most natural. Fascinated by this concept of reflexes and catching people off guard, I want to show the viewer the in between states of surprise reactions by throwing objects at my subjects through photographs. I want to prolong the awkward facial expressions that only occur for a split second of time. I want to show the viewer something that cannot be made on demand, but only by surprise. It’s about seeing what you don’t see." -Cammy Termini
