Dear Artists,NEWS!
The Kefa Cafe HUB at the new Silver Spring Library on Bonifant and Wayne has opened! (It opened this past weekend, according to Amy Kincaid, on site.) Stop by during library hours!
We are still waiting for the original Kefa Cafe to re-open. Since we don't know when that will be, why not put on a pop up group art show?Who? YOU!What? A Pop-Up Group Art Show, Theme: Silver Spring (and surrounding areas).
Where? IF Space 710 at Kefa Cafe is open by Oct. 3rd, then great - we'll have a location! IF that space is not yet available, then we will have some other venues for a limited time elsewhere in Silver Spring. (maybe for 1 day - this is still being worked out)When? TENTATIVE POP-UP, October 3rd.Why? Marketing (include a business-sized card with your contact information on it), show off your work, show off Silver SpringFor How Long? Pop Up length of time is uncertain at the moment because we are still checking with Pop Up venues. On the safe side, our "ballpark" is 1 "day" length of time, to start. The nitty-gritty: We will follow the same guidelines about Liability and Damages, Publicity, and Pricing, etc, that Amy Kincaid had written here: http://space710atkefa.blogspot.com/2014/07/info-for-artists.html. You are responsible for your own work and submit your work at your own risk. Please read.If you would like to join our spontaneous art group, please click to email with the following information:- # of pieces that you have available to submit- sizes of piecesSome ARTWORK requirements- ready-to-hang- sizes ranging from postcard size 4"x6" to no larger than 18"x24". We are not sure of our locations yet, so "ease of hanging" is optimal. We do love to have a mix of sizes.- visually Silver Spring oriented, featuring a Silver Spring place or person or whatever - as long as there is some element in it that can reference Silver Spring, MD, it will fit. Please save your "artwork that has other themes but was done IN Silver Spring" for a different show.
Question: What if I have sold all of my Silver Spring artwork or can't get it by October? Or what if I just don't have any?Meagan Healy, a MAPAPA member (Mid-Atlantic Plein Aire Painter's Association) and part of Space 7:10, will be organizing a Plein Aire Paint Out in downtown Silver Spring. MAPAPA's theme for 2015 is Cityscape.Goal: Saturday, September 19th, 2015. (Poster/Fliers to come to these same email lists with details).Curious about membership-organized MAPAPA? Meagan is happy to supply answers (at the Space710 email) for more info.
There is no requirement to join MAPAPA or any other group to paint/draw/sketch in Silver Spring, though. Just show up and create! We simply want to set up a day where everyone can paint together in the same location. The more artists, the better!
Information to come: More details on Pop-Up & details on Paint-Out.Hope to hear from you soon!Space 7:10
